TB Joshua predicts Akufo Addo as winner of Ghana’s elections

LAGOS – Prophet TB Joshua, who has been trending for his failed prediction in the just ended U.S elections is out with new “revelations” directed at Ghana’s presidential elections.

Ghana would be visiting the polls in December this year to either give the incumbent John Mahama four more years or welcome Nana Akufo Addo into the Flagstaff House.

On his Emmanuel TV, TB Joshua predicted a 53% win for the leader of the main opposition NPP, Nana Akufo Addo.

The preacher did not give reasons for the failed Clinton-win’s prediction or perhaps he has not heard the results of the U.S elections yet.

Ghanaian rival preacher Rev. Owusu Bempam who predicted a win for Clinton has also predicted a win for Nana Akufo Addo.

Is this a lost for Nana Akufo Addo?

“AKUFO-ADDO WILL NOT LIE TO US”, SAYS SUAMAN CHIEF

The Krontihene of Dadieso, in the Suaman constituency, Nana Armah Kofi III, is confident that the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will deliver on his ‘1-District-1-Factory’ policy’, when he is elected President in the December 7 elections.
According to the Krontihene, who sat in state due to the absence of the Omanhene, Odeneho Brentum IV, the people of Dadieso, and indeed Ghanaians, have “heard so many promises from others. The bearers of some of these promises have turned out not be trustworthy anymore. However, we know this promise of ‘1-District-1-Factory’, is not a lie.”
He, therefore, appealed to the NPP flagbearer “not forget to set up one of these factories in Suaman. This will create jobs for the masses of unemployed youth in Suaman. I have every confidence in you that this promise will be fulfilled.”
Nana Armah Kofi III made these remarks when Nana Akufo-Addo, in the company of the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Suaman, Christian Baah, and a host of national and regional party stalwarts, paid a courtesy call on him at his palace, on Friday, August 12, 2016.
Thanking the NPP flagbearer for consistently making it a point to visit Dadieso, the Krontihene stated that this act by the NPP flagbearer “has shown us that he has true love for us. It is our prayer that God will bless his endeavour this election year.”
He urged the NPP flagbearer to continuously trumpet his Free SHS policy, stressing that “1-District-1-Factory, and Free SHS should be the message to the electorate across the length and breadth of the country.”
Nana Armah Kofi III requested that Nana Akufo-Addo, when elected President, upgrades the healthcare centre at Suaman into a District Hospital, assuring the NPP flagbearer that “when you do this for us, we will vote for you over and over and over again”, much to the delight of the hundreds gathered at the Omanhene’s Palace.
“Your achievements as Attorney General and Minister for Justice, and subsequently Minister for Foreign Affairs are well-documented. In the field of law, you will surely be amongst the best top 2 lawyers ever in Ghana’s history. If you have achieved all of these when you have not been President, then Ghanaians should expect even greater achievements for this country when you are elected President,” he said.
In concluding, the Dadieso Krontihene urged the youth and activists of the various political parties to be tolerant of each other’s views, and campaign without the use of intemperate or abusive language. He indicated that there’s no need for violence in this year’s elections, happy that supporters of the NPP have not engaged themselves in any violent acts

“NHIS HAS COLLAPSED”, AFIGYA SEKYERE CHIEF LAMENTS

Barima Owusu Sekyere, Chief of Asaman, in the Afigya Sekyere East constituency, says the National Health Insurance Scheme, established by the Kufuor-led NPP government, to remove the constant fear of falling ill under the inhumane Cash & Carry system, has collapsed in his town.

According to the Chief, residents of his town, who in times past beamed with smiles after returning from the hospital, now have to pay exorbitant amounts of money, in the midst of the prevailing hardships and suffering, in order to access healthcare. “When as a government you only think of infrastructural development, without paying attention to the wellbeing of the citizenry, it is a cause for worry. President Kufuor instituted the National Health Insurance Scheme, which enabled residents to access affordable healthcare at the Asaman Hospital. “These days, you even have to buy paracetamol yourself, whereas in those days, under President Kufuor, you come home from the hospital with all the drugs paid for by the NHIS. Today, we have to pay for healthcare services, as well as pay for the drugs. This situation is unacceptable,” the Chief of Asaman bemoaned.

Barima Owusu Sekyere made this known on Saturday, July 16, 2016, when the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, together with the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Afigya Sekyere East, Mavis Nkansah Boadu, paid a courtesy call on him at his palace.
Delving into the education sector which, he said, is also in crisis, Barima Owusu Sekyere recounted how “students, right from the days of Kwame Nkrumah, were given allowances to help them through college. After completing school, the teacher is given everything in order to make him or her comfortable, so he or she can teach the children well.” Today, however, the Asaman Chief indicated that “students in training colleges pay fees, have had the allowances cancelled, and even after completion, they have to write application letters. Which teacher, after completing training school, writes an application before he is employed in a school?” Barima Owusu Sekyere, theref

AKUFO-ADDO’S ONE FACTORY IN EVERY DISTRICT FEASIBLE - Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia is confident the one factory in every district promise by the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is “feasible”.
His only difficulty is that, the NPP leader, Nana Akufo-Addo did not give details on how he intends to make the 'dream' a reality. Nana Akufo-Addo, on the campaign trail in the Central region over the weekend, promised to help build one factory in each of the 216 districts.
He vowed to make industrialization the cornerstone of his policy of economic transformation. But the NDC rubbished the promise by the opposition leader describing it as an election promise.
However, Mr. Asiedu Nketia on Asempa FM Wednesday said the one factory in every district is possible but the concept lacks clarity. “Is Nana Akufo-Addo going to create the environment for individuals to open the factories or the state is now going to do business. I’m confused because I know the NPP is capitalist oriented" he stressed.
Failure to do so, the NDC scribe said, it will be one of his many utopian promises by Nana Akufo-Addo to the electorates ahead of a crucial election.
“Even as an individual, I have three block factories so “I choose to open more in other districts and boost that I have established factories in districts” he scoffed.
This notwithstanding, General Mosquito said the Mahama-led government is creating the needed environment for Akufo-Addo promise to become a reality in the unlikely event that the NDC loses power.
“I can’t say it [the one factory promise] is impossible because we are creating the conditions for people to open jobs” he stated.

“VOTE FOR NANA AKUFO-ADDO”, SAYS NKORANZA NORTH CHIEF

The Chief of the Busuanya Traditional Area, Nana Okufo Gyabaah II, has urged the people of the Nkoranza North constituency, as well the Ghanaian electorate, to vote for the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, in this year’s elections.

Touting the achievements of the Kufuor-led NPP government, from January 2001 to January 2009, Nana Okufo Gyabaah II stated that the creation of the Nkoranza North District, which was done by the Kufuor government, was key to the development of Nkoranza North.
“It did not end here. The construction of a police station and the extension of electricity to the district were all done by President Kufuor. If President Kufuor had not laid this solid foundation, no other person could have come to build on it,” he stressed.

According to the Busuanya Chief, “we know that if Nana Akufo-Addo wins this election, Nkoranza North will be huge beneficiaries. I urge all residents of Nkoranza North to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo. He says we should try him. So let us try him by voting for him, and see what he can also do for us.”

The Busuanya Chief made this known on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, on the final day of Nana Akufo-Addo’s tour of the Brong Ahafo Region, when the NPP flagbearer paid a courtesy call on him at his palace.
Nana Okufo Gyabaah II warned that “if we don’t vote for Nana Akufo-Addo, we may one day regret our actions and inactions. You may be looking for Nana Akufo-Addo at that time, and you may not find him. We hope and pray that his suffering will not be in vain.”

To political opponents of the NPP who have made it an enterprise to continuously lambast and pour invectives on the NPP flagbearer, the Busuanya Chief indicated that “the insults they pour on Nana Akufo-Addo is not one which will make me change my mind or the minds of others about voting for him. Nana, you have already been ordained President by God. What is left is for us to affirm it with our thumbs on Election Day.”

In concluding, the Busuanya Chief stated that “I urge Ghanaians to take a look at their conditions of living and vote wisely. We are suffering in Ghana now, there is hunger everywhere. Even the rains are not falling, as they should.

“I have 6 children I am taking care of, who are in High School and Colleges. I am suffering and cannot pay their fees. Some years back, teacher training and nursing training students did not pay fees. But now, the situation is such that if you don’t have money, you cannot educate your ward. It is unacceptable. I know Nana Akufo-Addo will implement his policy of Free SHS to bring relief to all Ghanaians. We pray for victory for him so that he can help the poor.”
Present, when the NPP flagbearer called on the Busuanya Chief, was the Chief of Droman Kesse, Nana Danso Abbeam, who also assured Nana Akufo-Addo of the support of the people of his town.
“Droman Kesse is solidly behind you. We are supporting the ‘Elephant’ with our prayers,” he added.

To the MP, Major Derek Oduro, Nana Danso Abbeam noted that “at this point, you do not have the backing of a President. However, we can all attest to the work you are doing for Nkoranza North. So when you have your own President in power, the benefits that Busuanya will reap will be immense.”

The Droman Kesse Chief reiterated his support for the NPP flagbearer, praying for God’s blessings for him, stressing that “this year, victory is yours because God has already sealed and blessed it. We are just waiting for the Ghanaian electorate to affirm it on Election Day”.

PRESS RELEASE - DR.PAPA KWESI NDUOM

Edwumawura Nduom ready to join 2016 campaign
.........Says Ghanaians should seek the best, to wit...
"Per Papa Preko!"
Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom is getting ready to join the 2016 election campaign.
When the 2012 election results were declared, Dr. Nduom sided with the Progressive People's Party (PPP) to present a petition to the Electoral Commission with specific reform recommendations including the use of the National Identification Database to register voters and electronic voting.
Since then, he has encouraged the PPP to continue to recommend policy changes that would improve the standard of living of Ghanaians.
Dr. Nduom has worked hard with Groupe Nduom management and staff and his family to create thousands of jobs for Ghanaians. He has also led his companies to make strategic investments outside the country to earn much needed foreign currency for the country. He is known and recognized everywhere as "Edwumawura".
The time has now come and Dr. Nduom has prepared himself and the PPP to begin an active, vigorous election campaign. His campaign will be policy driven. Dr. Nduom will focus on advocating for specific changes to be made to the 1992 constitution, our national attitude, democratic practices, etc.
He will campaign seriously with PPP parliamentary candidates to ensure the party wins seats to gain advocates in the legislature who will move for changes to be made to the 1992 constitution.
Dr. Nduom will preach to Ghanaians and ask for their votes because he has the right talent to solve the current challenges facing Ghanaians - economy and job creation.
He recognizes that Nana Akufo-Addo and Ivor Greenstreet have talent as lawyers; that President John Mahama has talent as a communicator; and that Dr. Edward Mahama has talent as a medical doctor. Nonetheless, he believes that the talents he has practiced successfully as an economic and financial expert plus entrepreneur are the ones Ghana needs now.
Dr. Nduom will tell Ghanaians that no one is perfect. But we must all re-dedicate ourselves and make sure we kill and remove the rot of corruption from our country - government, elections, businesses, churches and mosques and society in general. He will challenge everyone contesting the presidential elections to make a personal commitment against corruption by making their tax returns and their asset declarations public.
Dr. Nduom will ask Ghanaians not to settle for less, or fall for the "wasted vote" propaganda and end up voting for "the lesser of two evils". Dr. Nduom will tell all Ghanaians, respectfully, "Per Papa Preko!"

“I SUPPORT YOU FULLY”, BOSO CHIEF TELLS AKUFO-ADDO

The Chief of Boso, in the Asuogyaman constituency, Osabarima Agyeman Boasia II, has assured the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, of his total and unflinching support in the run-up to this year’s general elections.
Praying for God’s blessings for the NPP flagbearer, Osabarima Agyeman Boasia II, explained that Ghana finds herself in severe pain, and is in dire need of a “Joshua” to take her to the “Promised Land.”
“Ghana is in pain. When Moses died, God chose Joshua and told him ‘Be strong and courageous’. These were the two words God told Joshua. It is these same words I am also telling Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, so he can lead us through the Red Sea to the Promised Land,” he said.
According to the Chief of Boso, the grim situation his town finds herself in under the leadership of President Mahama is akin to that of the entire country.
“I would have wished you had come here during the day to see the deplorable nature in which the town roads of Boso are. The young people of Boso need jobs, Boso needs progress, Boso needs development. We need an agro-based industry here in Boso, so we halt the migration of our young men and women who seek greener pastures in the so-called big cities,” he added.
Commending the NPP flagbearer for his bold vision for the country, Osabarima Agyeman Boasia II indicated that “I am in full support of Nana Akufo-Addo and I ask for God’s blessings for him.”
The Chief of Boso made this known when the NPP flagbearer paid a courtesy call on him at his palace on Friday, July 1, 2016, as he campaigned in the Asuogyaman constituency, on day 3 of his 5-day tour of the Eastern Region.
Flanked by the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Kwame Adu Darkwa, as well as the sitting MP for the constituency, Hon. Kofi Osei Ameyaw, Nana Akufo-Addo thanked Osabarima Agyeman Boasia II for his words of encouragement and support, assuring him that victory for him in this year’s elections would mean an improvement in the living conditions of every Ghanaian.
Later that evening, Nana Akufo-Addo also addressed residents of Anum, also in the Asuogyaman constituency, urging them to repose their confidence in the NPP in this year’s elections, as well as ensure that the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency retains the seat for the party.
The NPP presidential candidate, wondering why President Mahama was desperate for a 2nd term in office, asked the gathering if the President wanted to impose further hardship and suffering on the people, hence his desire for another 4 years in office.
“Another 4 years of Mahama will be disastrous for this country. Is he coming to continue to bring poverty to Ghanaians? Is he coming to increase the unemployment rate? Today, businesses are collapsing and business owners are suffering. Is this what he wants to come and continue?” Nana Akufo-Addo asked.
He therefore urged the hundreds gathered at the Anum taxi/trotro terminal to use their “thumbs to change Mahama, and, thereby, change Ghana so we can bring jobs to Ghanaians.”
Nana Akufo-Addo further added that the NPP has fashioned out well-thought out policies and plans for the forward-movement of Ghana, “as well as a plethora of experienced and brilliant men and women who can give Ghana a 1st class government.”

PHOTOS: SEE MASSIVE CROWD INVOLVE IN VOLTA FOR CHANGE HEALTH WALK.

Volta 4 Change host a “Health Walk and Health screening” today Saturday June 4th, 2016 in Hohoe.
The march commence at 6am from the Atabu Park and end at CMB with a free health screening and treatment. This march is endorsed by ‘’Agenda 4 Change Volta’’, ‘’The Disappointed NDC Youth of Volta’’ and the ''Action Club Volta''.

The recent voter registration exercise was a complete farce and it manifested the epitome of corruption that flourishes under Mahama’s NDC regime. Sensing the nationwide unpopularity with their governance, which by all indices has been an absolute failure, John Mahama has resorted to any means, however despicable, to preserve his scandal-ridden incumbency.
The threats of blocking Social Media and the cultivation of a “Togolese constituency” is indicative of the depths that John Mahama will stoop to in order to maintain his loosening grip on power.

With Voltarians seeing the John Mahama government for what they really are - a band of selfish opportunist grasping thieves, rotten to the core - they have sought to ingratiate themselves with foreigners in order to shore up their crumbling support, bussing them into Ghana where necessary, bribing them with NHIS cards and motorbikes as they plan to curtail free speech and information.

Volta 4 Change says no more.

Voltarians cannot sit by idly whilst corruption underpinned by violence flourishes in our region in order for Mahama to maintain the illusion of the Volta being the NDC’s “World Bank”.
When it comes to morality, it is completely absent from John Mahama’s DNA. For he is pathologically immoral, corrupt and debased. John Mahama’s nefarious tactics are disgusting and have no place in a democracy.
As proud Voltarians and Ghanaians, it is our duty to challenge these malpractices taking place in our region and right under our noses. To turn a blind eye will amount to dereliction of our civic duty. We are not the NDC’s lapdogs.
Volta must change. Volta will change. God bless and prosper the Volta Region and Ghana.

Volta4Change.

PHOTOS:“Don’t Be Deceived By NDC In 2016”, Akufo-Addo To Teshie Residents

The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has appealed to residents of Teshie not to be deceived and swayed by empty promises in the run-up to this year’s elections, but rather cast their votes based on their current living circumstances.

According to him, voting in this year’s election should be devoid of politics of tribalism and ethnicity, but, rather, on competence and the track-record of the various political parties and their respective candidates, and their ability to deliver decent standards of living for the citizenry.

Touring the Ledzokuku Constituency on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, Nana Akufo-Addo, at Teshie Maami, recounted how, on the 28th November, 2006, the Minister of Fisheries, the late Gladys Asmah, secured a $200 million facility from the Chinese government to construct 3 fishing harbours at Shama, Elmina and Teshie.

The NPP flagbearer explained that before the project could fully take off, the NPP lost power in 2008, and after the NDC, under President Mills, assumed office in 2009, the project was abandoned.
“With 2 months to the holding of the December 2012 elections, specifically 19th September, 2012, then Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of Fisheries was here in Teshie and announced the construction of a $250 million fishing harbor for Teshie. Till date nothing has happened,” he said.

He continued, “We cannot govern a country on the basis of deceit. The fishing sector has collapsed. There are no jobs. If we are to change our circumstances, then we need people who will come and return Ghana onto the path of progress and prosperity.

Mahama can’t help us. We have to change Mahama this year so Ghana can move forward, so the youth can find jobs to do.”
Again, at Lascala where Akufo-Addo interacted with commercial drivers and market women, he stated that insurance premiums, electricity tariffs and prices of petroleum products continue to increase, largely because of the mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy.

It will be recalled that the then candidate, the late John Atta-Mills, made a pledge to reduce petroleum prices drastically when he won power. The price of a gallon of petrol has, however, shot up from GH¢3.69 a gallon by the time the NPP left office in 2008 to GH¢15.70 now, and continues to increase.

“I have been told that on Thursday the price of petroleum products is set to witness a 3% increase again. The price will continue to increase if we do not change governments this year. This year, look up to me and the NPP and let’s change Ghana. We have the men and women to fix Ghana’s economy and bring wealth to everybody.”

Nana Akufo-Addo reiterated his appeal to the electorate to vote against politicians who whip up ethnic sentiments in their hope of winning elections.
“The politics of ethnicity is not something that will help us. Let us look at the person who can help Ghana. We have been with Mahama for over 5 years now, and yet we can’t see any progress. The roads in Teshie are bad. Gladys Norley as MP was the one who commenced the town roads around Lascala. The LEKMA hospital in Teshie was initiated by her, and she also brought the Nursing Training College to Teshie. When you give us the NPP the chance, we will work to bring relief to Ghanaians. So please don’t be deceived any longer,” he said.

At Teshie Tsui Bleoo, his last port of call in the constituency, the NPP flagbearer called on all NPP members to unite, win this year’s elections, and help return Ghana back onto the path of progress and prosperity.
“We want businesses to flourish. With all these high taxes being imposed on the private sector, it is not surprising that businesses are collapsing. We are coming to reduce all these high taxes and also abolish import duties so businesses can flourish. When businesses flourish, Ghana can then move forward. The time to change Ghana is now,” he added.

The NPP flagbearer urged the people of Teshie to vote for the NPP’s candidate, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, stating that “not only is he handsome, but very intelligent. He is coming to work for you. The lady you voted for in 2012 has proven that she has nothing good for Teshie. We need the NPP in power to bring jobs and wealth to the people of Teshie.”
Prior to Nana Akufo-Addo’s tour, he first paid a courtesy call on Wulomo of Teshie, Nuumo Adjei Kwanko II, and also introduced himself to the traditional council of Teshie ahead of this year’s elections.

NPP will scrap import duties on raw materials – Bawumia

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has outlined a number of policy decisions, including the scrapping of all import duties on raw materials, if Ghanaians vote in their favour on November 7.

Speaking at a fundraising event being organized by some chapters of the NPP USA branch in Houston, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the party, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, said the NPP intends to transform Ghana into what he calls one of the most business friendly economies in Africa. “We have focused a lot on revenue generation at the expense of production. The focus of government after government has been on taxation and very little on the incentives for production and if you get into that you are really creating an engine for unemployment and I am not surprised that the unemployment issue is not tackled because we have focused a lot on taxation.

“What we want to do in Ghana is to create the most business friendly and the most people friendly economy in Africa, that is the goal. Once you set that goal, you know what your competitors are up to,” the economist argued.

Bawumia explained that abolishing all import duties on raw materials will promote local production and generate more revenue. “You are trying to give the local production an incentive and this is the situation where you are trying to get local production of fufu powder and you have over taxed them and they have left . Our philosophy is going to be quite different.

We are going to have to give the incentives to promote local production so under the NPP by the grace of God in our first budget, our philosophy is that, allow the local production to take place, allow them to employ people. Get income taxes from there then when they make profit, you will get corporate taxes. But if you try to impose these huge import duties , they will not produce at all, we will lose the import duty, we will lose the income taxes, you will lose the corporate taxes …so we are going to abolish all import duties on raw materials into local products and it makes economic sense. We are not worried that we are going to lose revenue.

NDC can’t win 2016 elections if…Top NDC man

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cautioned the party to forget about chalking victory in the 2016 election if the government fails to solve the current problem with the electricity billing in the country.

Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the party, Anthony Nukpenu predicted on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Thursday that the party would be doomed in the impending elections if they fail to sell their message to the ‘down trodden’ who are the group affected most by the high billing system of the ECG.

“Our votes are with the down trodden and they need power to run their barbershops etc…it’s shameful we are plunging the nation into this state…I cannot see how I can convince people to vote for the NDC if this thing continues…,” he said.

Ghanaians have been up in arms against the government and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) over outrageous electricity bills served them by the company.
The new billing system implemented by the electricity distribution company has led to the collapse of several businesses with a large section of Ghanaians complaining that they have either cut down drastically or stopped using electricity in their homes.

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr last week lamented on the same show that outrageous billing was leading to the collapse of his printing business.

“How can electricity bill that was around Ghs 300 move to Ghs 1200, when I complained, it jumped to Ghs1800; while we were still deliberating on this, it shot up to Ghs2000 something. The bill that was brought last month was just too serious, it was 6000 Ghana cedis, I don’t even know whether to cry or to laugh about this…,” he lamented.

“Since birth, I have never seen a meter like that, herh, it is very dangerous…now, they tell me it is even impossible to top up credit on the meter, you have to wait for the credit to get finished and I simply can’t comprehend it,” he said.
Mr Pratt, according to the Greater Accra Regional Orgnaiser of the NDC, is not alone as the masses are also complaining bitterly about the entire problem.

He has therefore called on President John Mahama and the national leadership of the NDC to sit up and meet with the managers of the ECG to find a lasting solution to the problem if the NDC hopes to retain power in the 2016 elections.

“Our votes are at the down trodden, these people need power for their work but because of this high billing, their businesses are collapsing…I'm calling on national leadership to sit with the President to solve this problem before we go into the 2016 elections…,” he urged.

He maintained that he and several NDC executives would not have the will to go out and campaign for the party if the ECG billing system remains unsolved.
“I don’t see how I can go out and convince these people to vote for us if this billing system is not solved…,” he stated.

EC must remove NHIS card holders from voters register – Supreme Court judge

A member of the panel of Supreme Court Judges who ordered the Electoral Commission to purge the voters’ register of persons who used the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards as a form of identification for their registration has said the court was clear in its ruling.

Speaking to some journalists on Thursday, Justice Jones Dotse stated that “…we [Supreme Court] said the use of the NHIS cards is therefore unconstitutional and it should take the opportunity to clean the register of those undesirable persons.”

He noted that because “we also do not want to disenfranchise anybody so the Supreme Court went on to say that anybody who will be affected by that exercise should be given the opportunity to register according to the law and the constitution, period.”

Asamankese Police Chase NDC Man for...

THE Asamankese police in the Eastern Region have launched a manhunt for Adu Agyei – the campaign manager for Shirely Naana Ampem, National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Lower West Akim Constituency – for allegedly threatening to kill Comfort Boadu, the constituency Women Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Adu Agyei is said to have disappeared from the constituency and the police have declared him wanted.
A police source who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said the NPP Women Organiser reported that last Thursday she addressed a forum of the Young Elephants, a youth wing of the NPP, at Akanten, and in her comment, said the NDC parliamentary candidate, Shirely Naana Frimpong, was giving loans to the women in the constituency without any interest. She (Women Organiser) said she thought the candidate was using that to buy votes therefore the constituents should ignore her and vote for the NPP.

According to the source, Adu Agyei, after the programne, called Mrs Boadu on her mobile phone and threatened to kill her if she dared talk about or call Naana Frimpong’s name on any of her political platforms.
Mrs. Comfort Boadu, who found the message threatening, went to the police station to report the matter.

The police were said to have invited Adu Agyei, but he failed to show up and has instead disappeared from the constituency.

When contacted by DAILY GUIDE, Mrs. Comfort Boadu said she had since been living in fear.
Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE attempts to get to Mr. Adu Agyei at press time yesterday proved futile.

Nana Addo Releases Statement On Electricity Tariff...

Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo has called on the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to as a matter of urgency reduce electricity tariffs.

Statement below

REDUCE ELECTRICITY TARRIFS NOW

I have taken notice of today’s statement made by the PURC that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) should suspend its billing system.
I think the matter is more fundamental and should go further than that. If you look at the rates we are charging, industry, as well as domestic users, for electricity in Ghana, compared, for instance, to Cote d’Ivoire, already, it puts our enterprises in a very uncompetitive comparison.

In Ghana, my understanding is that the tariff for commercial users is 32 US cents/kilowatt hour. The Ivorian equivalent is 13 US cents/kilowatt hour. Again, for domestic users, we are talking about 19.28 US cents/kilowatt hour, when Cote d’Ivoire equivalent is a tariff of 9 US cents/kilowatt hour. So, you put these things together, and, already, Ghanaian industry and economic activity are suffering unnecessarily.

A large part of it is due to the taxes, the insatiable appetite of the Mahama government for taxes – 10% energy levy which is charged for both domestic and commercial uses; a service charge of GH¢7 flat rate for every consumer and a VAT of 17½% for commercial users.

I believe all of these figures can be significantly reduced to be able to bring the electricity tariff system in our country to a much more competitive relationship with that of our neighbours and what is going on in the region. It is important for us to recognize in Ghana that, whatever we are doing, we are doing so in a globally competitive context, and if we don’t recognize that, many of the decisions we make about the management of our economy are going to put us at a disadvantage from the get go.

I am saying it is absolutely imperative and urgent that the public authorities find a way to reduce electricity tariffs in our country immediately and do so now.

WE DON'T WANT VIOLENT POLLS -NANA AKUFFO ADDO

The leader of Ghana’s biggest opposition party, Nana Akufo-Addo, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) does not want violence in the November polls. “This year is an election year where we will elect a new government. I am requesting that you pray to the Almighty God to preserve the peace of the nation in this year and the years ahead. We do not want any disturbances whatsoever to disrupt the peace of the nation,” Mr Akufo-Addo on Good Friday March 25, when he joined the chiefs and people of Techiman to celebrate this year’s Apo? festival. The peace of the nation, he added, will be, to a large extent, enhanced by the conduct of the Electoral Commission. The creation of a fair, level playing field, he said, is of the utmost importance, so that the results of the election will be readily accepted by all stakeholders. Nana Akufo-Addo, thus, requested for prayers for the EC. The festival, which commemorates the rejection of all forms of undesirable happenings, including diseases, poverty and other forms of calamities in the Techiman traditional area, was attended by NPP national and regional stalwarts, as well as NPP Members of Parliament from the region. Nana Akufo-Addo, a special guest of the Omanhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, donated cartons of water, assorted drinks and a cash amount of GH¢5,000 towards the festival. Addressing the gathering at the forecourt of the palace of the Techimanhene, the NPP flagbearer thanked the Omanhene for the honour done him through the invitation to the festival. To the Omanhene, Nana Akufo-Addo said: “I am hopeful that in a year’s time, God-willing, you will invite me to this festival again, and, God-willing, when I join you in the festivities, I will be here as President Nana Akufo-Addo.” This was met with a rousing roar of approval from the packed forecourt of the palace.
